I am still in the early stages of researching WLS i was wondering if anyone knows of a Dr. that does not charge a program fee and is in network with BC/BS. I am trying to find a doctor that does not charge aprogram fee and nothing other than what my out of pocket would be.

You might check with UCSF as they took my Blue Shield.

One of the easiest things to do is call your insurance company.  Get a list of doctors and start calling around until you can find one that will not charge you.

I have BC/BS, I have not heard of a program fee. I had to pay my copayment. Then when I see Dr. Suh at my pre op I have to pay another part of the 20%.  Maybe I have not asked all the questions, please elaborate if you will.

 Are you interested in a RNY, lapband, DS or the VSG?

Dr. Krahn in San Bernardino does not charge a program fee. He is very nice and has seminars twice a month, I believe.  You can also go to BC/BS website and look up in network providers, once you've done that call around and see who does and doesn't charge a fee.

If you are interested in the DS Dr. Crookes is about the only DS surgeon in CA who doesn't charge a program fee or upfront surgeon's fee. 

While  you are in the early stages of research I would suggest that you research all your WLS options. There are forums for each on OH. Hang around each forum and ask questions. See what the quality of life is like with each surgery and then make your decison on which surgery you want first before you decide on a surgeon.  Best of luck to you. Dr Crookes takes BCBS with no other fees and they do all 4 surgical options. They have a seminar once a month in Pasadena, also free bt you will have to pre register, not a big deal

I have BS and did not have to pay the program fee with Dr. Quilici in Burbank, but I was led to believe that it had more to do with my medical group. I am with Regal Medical Group in Upland if that helps.
